12-13  FEBRUARY  2014 : STRIKE  REVIEW

Comrades of our circle have made the strike called by the Confederation a thundering success despite administrative and political pressure, threats and conspiracies of a section of staffs and their leaders to foil the solidarity.

On the 1st day of the strike, the intensity was overwhelming. Almost in all divisions including Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar, services were completely paralysed. In divisions like Birbhum and Howrah, even the administrative control room did not function. In Bankura Division, divisional level JCA was formed. Strike was total even in small units like Alipore H.O. and Foreign Post.

On the 2nd day, unfortunately in divisions and units like Coochbehar, Darjeeling, Nadia North, Contai, Midnapore, Purulia, Barabazar H.O., North Kolkata, Asansol, North Hooghly and Murshidabad, leaders of our opponent organisation (especially the Group-C leaders) withdrew themselves from the strike, misguided their members too and joined office breaking the strike. Our members tried to convince them, but they told that they were doing so obtaining concurrence from their Circle leadership in Kolkata. However, the P-IV organisation of that union continued their strike with total consolidation.

Thus, the leadership of that organisation played different roles at different places and practically sabotaged and compromised with the staff interests. But our comrades held the spirit intact and continued the strike.

Strike in the Circle Office (Yogayog Bhavan), North Bengal R.O., RMS and MMS was total. In DA(P) office, 87% of our members were on strike on the 1st day, on 2nd day it was reduced. The participation in strike in North Presidency Division was poor on the first day, but the motivation to recover that weakness did wonder on the second day. Strike was remarkable even in the hill area of Darjeeling division on day 1. But on day 2, our comrades kept on striking on their own strength as the opponent union withdrew themselves from struggle.

To highlight the issue of strike and the charter of demands, Members of Parliament Com. Basudeb Acharya and Com. Tapan Sen served notice to the Speaker, but due to the situation in Parliament yesterday, they did not get the scope.

In the present backdrop and reality of political hooliganism in West Bengal, our comrades did their best to make the strike successful. We are proud of our brave comrades. Now it is our task to maintain and extend this success towards bigger struggle in coming days, as we have noted that the UPA-2 Govt is still indifferent to the justified demands of the staffs, and even the main opposition party, who are contemplating to rise to the power, is not interested to pressurise the Govt on it. Therefore, the conflict is inevitable, and the rank and file of our members must be ready for this.

Comrades, please remember that history always promotes the struggling force among the workers, not the betrayers like that section of leaders who surrenders and escapes from strike only to satisfy the ruling class.

RED SALUTE OUR COMRADES AS WELL AS PARTICIPATING STAFF-MEMBERS OF OTHER ORGANISATIONS FOR THE MASSIVE STRIKE ON THE FACE OF ALL PRESSURES AND BETRAYAL. LET US BE AND REMAIN UNITED TO FORM A BETTER FUTURE.
